On January 1, 1502, a Portuguese squad commanded by Andre Gonçalves discovered the Guanabara Bay and, judging it to be the mouth of a great river and it being January, he gave it the name of Rio de Janeiro (River of January).

It is the largest bay of the world in volume of water and has several islands, including Governor's Island, Fundão and Snakes Island. To the West, we see Rio de Janeiro, and East the municipal district of Niteroi. A city vision is discovered as we leave Marina da Gloria by Saveiro boat, viewing Botafogo, Flamengo, Urca, Sugar Loaf, Fort São Joao, Flagstone Island, Santa Cruz Fortress, and the Rio-Niteroi Bridge.

While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.
